Claudia Vazquez
Claudia Vazquez is the first of five children. Born in Zacatecas, Mexico her family moved to Atlanta in 1999, where she has spent most of her life. Atlanta has been much more than a second home to me; it has been the place where she have learned many things from building strong friendships to discovering her capabilities. She is incredibly grateful for the opportunities she has been afforded to pursue her future goals.
At school Claudia managed to not only be academically successful, but also developed leadership skills which made her a model for her siblings and peers. She was elected vice-president of Student Government Association, where she was involved in planning and organizing student activities and events. In addition, Claudia helped interpret for Spanish-speaking parents during mentorship studies, as well as in elementary conferences that the International Welcome Center provided for her family and others.
In school, Claudia challenged herself with the toughest curriculums offered. Juggling work, family, community, and school; Claudia managed to maintain the second highest cumulative GPA in her class with the support of her family. The experiences of her life have been part of the foundation that helped her to achieve what has seemed to be impossible 10 years ago, going to college.
Claudia now attends Georgia Perimeter College, and is part of the exceptional GPC Educational Achievement Program. Claudia will continue to challenge herself with advanced math and science courses to become one of the few Hispanic females in the construction engineering field. Claudia is determined to become the builder of tomorrow to take part in innovating America.
