Helen Guerrero

Helen Guerrero is a full time student at Kennesaw State University with a double major in Education and Biology. Helen currently has over 150+ hours and counting of community service in Bartow County alone. Since a very young age she volunteered with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, a nonprofit organization offering elderly people with little or no family, everything from food bags to friendship; and from there stemmed the love of volunteering. In 2006 she began to attend Cartersville High School and it was in 2009 a high school teacher convinced her to try a teaching course. She began mentoring and tutoring children from the primary level to middle school, preferring to mentor in the ESOL programs.

In 2010 not only did Helen graduate with honors, meet all the requirements to become a certified substitute teacher within the Cartersville City School System, and was a two time consecutive recipient to Cartersville High School’s Honors Night award; she also began to mentor and tutor ESOL and Non-ESOL students at the Hands Of Christ after school care program, all while playing on her high school varsity soccer team. Today she holds a part time job as an office assistant at Hangers Unlimited of Georgia to cover the costs of books and transportation HOPE Scholarship does not. She still volunteers tutoring as well as mentoring children.

Helen has lived in Chicago, IL, Miami, FL, Omaha, NE, Atchison, KS and currently resides in Cartersville, GA. Upon graduation she hopes to teach within the Cartersville City School System that helped her discover her passion so that she may change and affect the lives of her students, the way that her teachers changed and affected hers.
